            <description><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.dcclark.net/p655704206/e108D527"><img src="http://www.dcclark.net/img/s4/v9/p17356071-3.jpg"/></a></p>]]><![CDATA[<p>The West Branch of the Eagle River -- which at this point is just a swamp with a bit of a current -- near where it crosses the old road to the <a href="http://coppercountryexplorer.com/category/cliff-mine/" target="_blank">Cliff Mine</a> in the Copper Country of Michigan. The Cliff Mine was founded more than 150 years ago, to extract huge, pure masses of copper from the cliff face here. If the trees were cut down, many old foundations, a few shafts, and an old cemetery would be visible.             <description><![CDATA[<p><a href="http://www.dcclark.net/p655704206/e2C01DE51"><img src="http://www.dcclark.net/img/s11/v36/p738319953-3.jpg"/></a></p>]]><![CDATA[<p>On Saturday and Sunday, the Lovely Sarah and I took an overnight camping trip to the <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porcupine_Mountains" target="_blank">Porcupine Mountains</a>, a huge and wild state park in northwestern Michigan. It was a beautiful weekend, and an excellent trip. The view here is the Carp River, leading up to Lake of the Clouds -- Michigan's highest elevation inland lake. We hiked the Escarpment Trail, which leads along a high ridge between Lake Superior (just barely visible on the horizon) and the rest of the park.
